Penn State Lehigh Valley will present Coach Herman "Ike" Boone, who will speak from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, in the Atrium. Boone was the inspiration for the movie "Remember the Titans," in which he was portrayed by Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington. Boone will share his story and lessons of respect, diversity, teamwork, conflict resolution, community involvement and the importance of character. Boone earned his bachelor of arts and master's degrees at North Carolina College. In 1969, Boone accepted a job as assistant coach at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va. The year -- 1971 -- brought about the integration of Alexandria's school system, and from this union the Titan football team was created. With Boone as head coach, the Titans became one of the best teams in Virginia. Boone, now retired, was selected Coach of the Year six times and is the author of many articles in several national magazines. This event is free to the public. For information or to reserve seating for a large group, call Brian Mauro at (610)-285-5021.
