Summer symposium dedicated to Harry Shearer’s 'Le Show' to be held Aug. 1-3

2:00 PM / August 01, 2023

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s Department of Communication Arts and Sciences (CAS) will host the Summer Symposium on Harry Shearer’s “Le Show” Aug. 1-3 at University Park.

The select, interdisciplinary symposium will feature presentations and discussions focused on the soon-to-be-completed archive dedicated to “Le Show,” the long-running weekly radio program hosted by Shearer, the acclaimed actor, writer, director and musician noted for his work on “The Simpsons” and in the mockumentary film “This Is Spinal Tap.”

Part of the Library of Congress’s American Archive of Public Broadcasting, the “Le Show” archive will provide online access to more than 2,000 programs and pre-recorded elements digitized from Shearer’s own collection. Its accompanying exhibit was curated by Rosa A. Eberly, associate professor of rhetoric in the CAS and English departments.

Members of the public and University community interested in attending the symposium can register on its website, which also provides details on the featured speakers, some of whom will be presenting remotely. A complete agenda will be announced on the website in mid-July.

For more information, contact Eberly at rhosa@psu.edu.

CAS is co-sponsoring the symposium with the College of the Liberal Arts, the Center for Humanities and Information, and the Department of English.
