UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Center for Nanoscale Science (CNS) has announced a call for proposals for their 2022-2023 seed grants, which are intended to fund high-risk, high-reward interdisciplinary materials research.

The CNS is a Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) supported by the National Science Foundation which enables collaborative, interdisciplinary research efforts in the area of nanoscale materials. Successful CNS seed grant proposals will show strong potential to either redirect existing interdisciplinary research groups to innovative, productive new directions or to set up new interdisciplinary research efforts to pursue future funding and/or as potential future MRSEC Interdisciplinary Research Groups in the next NSF MRSEC competition in 2025.

The research funded by the seed grants should hold potential to show preliminary results on an 18- to 24-month timescale. Seed projects are anticipated to be funded at $75,000 in direct costs over the 18-24 month timescale and there are no indirect costs.

More information on proposal criteria and how to submit a proposal can be found at the Penn State MRSEC website. The deadline for submissions is midnight, Feb. 6.
