Dr. Thanh Tran, an anesthesiology resident at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, was recognized in February 2022 as part of the Exceptional Moments in Teaching program of Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine.
“I told Dr. Tran I was interested in internal medicine and using the anesthesia rotation to get better at working with my hands,” a current student wrote, “and she took that to heart. She made sure to get me to work, teaching me how to make different lines, allowing me to intubate and mask ventilate. Moreover, she gave me a great and easy-to-follow lecture regarding fluids and different types of insulin in a clear manner.
“Dr. Tran is very knowledgeable, skilled and polite. She is a wonderful educator, clinician and resident.”
Tran is a PGY-3 in anesthesiology who completed her medical degree at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. An avid dog lover and mountaineer, the operating room is her favorite place in the hospital, but the top of a mountain peak is her favorite place outside of it. Tran said she always appreciated when residents and attendings would take the time to teach her something new and promised herself that she would return the favor one day.
Penn State College of Medicine’s Office for a Respectful Learning Environment recognizes exceptional faculty, residents and fellows with the monthly “Exceptional Moments in Teaching” program. Each month, one faculty member and one resident/fellow are highlighted for their contributions.
