Grigsby accepts new position with AAMC

R. Kevin Grigsby, vice dean for faculty and administrative affairs and professor, Department of Psychiatry, has accepted a position as senior director of organizational leadership development at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) in Washington, D.C., effective March 1. In this new role, Grigsby’s primary responsibility is the strategic design and oversight of the AAMC’s leadership and faculty development programs for deans, prospective deans, department chairs and division chiefs. He will ensure the effective coordination and improvement of AAMC professional development programs for women in medicine and will lead the design of new programs and annual conferences. His charge includes advancing innovation, research and scholarship regarding academic medical faculty, leadership development, and women in medicine.

Grigsby came to the College of Medicine in 2000 and has served as the vice dean for faculty and administrative affairs for the last eight years. In this role, he has been involved with numerous innovations at the College and Medical Center, including creation and implementation of the Unified Campus Teams, establishment of the Office of Professional Development and creation of the Dean’s Council on Diversity. He has been involved in the recruitment of more than twenty department chairs, vice deans, and institute directors, as well as numerous faculty members.

Beyond his service to the College of Medicine, Grigsby has served Penn State as a member of the University Strategic Planning Council and of several leadership search committees for the University. He has actively served the AAMC in various capacities, including chair of the AAMC Group on Faculty Affairs, and is a frequent contributor to AAMC publications including "Academic Medicine" and "Academic Physician and Scientist."
