HERSHEY, Pa. — Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and the Susquehanna Area Mountain Bike Association (SAMBA) hosted the grand opening of a new 10-mile recreational trail on and around the Hershey Medical Center campus on Oct. 18. SAMBA members cut a vine to mark the opening of the Hershey Medical Center Trail System.

The loop trail is available for mountain biking, hiking, running and dog walking. It winds through woods and features different sections for beginner, advanced and expert mountain bikers.

Members of SAMBA, a nonprofit volunteer organization, began work on the new trail in March of this year. One hundred forty-three volunteers donated more than 1,600 hours to the project.

The Hershey Medical Center Trail System will provide outdoor activity for the community, as well as students, faculty, employees and patients at the Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine.
