Kothari named assistant dean for student affairs

Dr. Milind Kothari has been named assistant dean for student affairs in the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs at Penn State College of Medicine. This is a new position designed to complement and build upon the strong resources currently available to medical students across the four years of study. Kothari began his new duties April 5.

Kothari graduated from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1988. He completed a residency in neurology at New York University Medical Center followed by fellowship training in neuromuscular disorders/neurophysiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He then joined the faculty of Penn State College of Medicine in 1995. During his tenure at Penn State, he has served in numerous educational leadership roles.

Two years ago Kothari became the course co-director along with Drs. Colin Barnstable and Aditya Joshi for the Neural and Behavioral Science course. By welcoming students’ feedback and suggestions he helped to design and implement significant changes that enhance student learning. He has served as an adviser/mentor to numerous medical students over the years. Kothari recently completed his service as the interim associate dean for clinical education.

“I think it is fair to say that Dr. Kothari is admired and respected by all for his sharp mind, open arms and kind heart,” said Dr. Terry Wolpaw, vice dean for educational affairs. “We will look to his leadership and vision and applaud his appointment to assistant dean for student affairs.”
