Dr. Thomas P. Loughran Jr., professor of medicine and director of Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, will present the Spring 2013 Dean’s Lecture at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, in the Junker Auditorium. Loughran will speak about his research in a talk entitled “Pathogenesis of LGL Leukemia,” focusing on a type of leukemia that he was instrumental in discovering.
Loughran’s career path has been a testament to translational research, with his clinical observations leading to discoveries in the laboratory, which in turn have contributed to improved clinical treatments. His research has been continuously funded since 1985. Prior to joining the Penn State faculty as the first director of the Cancer Institute in 2003, Loughran was the program leader for hematologic malignancies at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
