Penn State PRO Wellness to address timely topics during Teen Health Week

HERSHEY, Pa. — Penn State PRO Wellness is collaborating with global partners on the world’s first Teen Health Week, March 18-24, with funding provided by Children’s Miracle Network and Giant Food Stores. The weeklong initiative encourages young people to take charge of their health and create healthy habits for the rest of their lives.

Penn State PRO Wellness will present several events for teens and their parents at Penn State Children’s Hospital.

Monday, March 19

11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Sexual health table activities — Tree House Café Performance Stage

2 p.m.: Let’s Talk About Sex…Answering Your Difficult Questions —Dr. Rollyn Ornstein, professor of pediatrics, Division of Adolescent Medicine and Eating Disorders, Penn State Children’s Hospital — Room P1305

Tuesday, March 20

11 a.m. to  2 p.m.: Easy, Healthy Recipes Teens Can Make —food demo, including 16 ingredients for 16 meals handout — Kara Shifler, registered dietician — Tree House Café Performance Stage

Wednesday, March 21

11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Substance use and abuse table activities — Tree House Café Performance Stage

2 p.m.: Weeding Through the Weeds: How to Talk to Your Teen about Marijuana — Dr. Sheryl Ryan, professor of pediatrics, chief, Division of Adolescent Medicine and Eating Disorders, Department of Pediatrics, Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center — Room P1305

7 to 9 p.m.: “Angst” — one-hour documentary on teen depression, followed by a panel discussion by representatives of the health care, faith and education communities — Junker Auditorium
