Dani S. Zander was named chair of the Department of Pathology, Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, effective June 19. Zander will oversee the clinical, research, education and service missions of the department.
Currently, Zander serves as tenured professor, vice chair and director of anatomic pathology at University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Medical School, where she was named the endowed Harvey S. Rosenberg chair in pathology and laboratory medicine in September 2002.
Zander holds prominent positions in several national and international professional societies. Zander focuses her research and clinical practice on anatomic pathology, and she is recognized for her expertise in pulmonary pathology. She has published numerous articles and book chapters on inflammatory and neoplastic lung diseases, transplantation and stem cell biology. Zander is a co-editor of a popular lung pathology atlas, currently has two other books in preparation and is an associate editor of the Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
Zander earned her medical doctorate from the University of Florida College of Medicine in 1986 and trained in anatomic and clinical pathology at New York Hospital Cornell University Medical Center and the University of Florida. After completing her residency in 1991, she joined the faculty at the University of Florida College of Medicine as an assistant professor and was later promoted to tenured associate professor. During this time, she was appointed chief of anatomic pathology and pathology residency coordinator at the Malcolm Randall Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville, Fla.
