Nursing center co-hosts virtual conference on navigating resilience at work

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Navigating and supporting resilience in the workplace will be the focus of the upcoming Centre County Geriatric Interest Network (GIN) virtual spring conference. All are welcome to attend the two-day educational event, which is co-hosted by the Tressa Nese and Helen Diskevich Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence at Penn State.

The conference will be held online May 18 and 25 with featured speakers Mark Parfitt of Fitttalent; Julie A. Hartley, director of human resources at Foxdale Village; Jackie Naginey Hook, spiritual director, celebrant, and end of life doula at Koch Funeral Home; and Charles Mazzitti, founder and executive director, Mazzitti & Sullivan EAP Services. 

Registration cost is $40 per person for GIN members and $80 for non-members and must be received by May 10.  

During day one of “Navigating and Supporting for Resiliency at Work” attendees will learn labor market economics and trends specific to the health care industry, strategies for recruitment and retention, and components of employment branding. Day two offers participants ways to identify strategies and healthy practices for physical, emotional, cognitive and spiritual well-being. 

Speakers will share ideas for understanding the role of ambient emotions in ourselves and those with whom we live and work as well as offer effective strategies for supportive workplace interactions, stress and anxiety mitigation, and healthy options for being with difficult emotions in ourselves and others. 

The conference has been submitted for 8.0 contact hours for participants who hold a valid RN license, attend the entire session, and complete the evaluation; partial contact hours are not awarded. Contact Sandy Schuckers at 814-355-6716 for more contact hours information. 

The Centre Country GIN organization comprises individuals and organizations who realize the need for networking to enhance the sharing of information and collaborating of services to help the senior community in Centre County. Through regular education and networking meetings, GIN strives to meet the basic goals of education, advocacy, and collaboration.
