Chancellor Kevin Snider has written the foreword to Penn State New Kensington's 50th anniversary book that will be available Oct. 23 at the Grand Finale Gala at Oakmont Country Club. Commemorating the campus' golden jubilee, "Penn State New Kensington, A Historical Perspective" chronicles the five decades of accomplishments of the Penn State campus that was founded in 1958.
Blending text and vintage photos, the 40-page souvenir edition includes biographies of the eight campus leaders, accomplishments of students and faculty, growth of academic excellence and community outreach through cultural programs. The book will be distributed to attendees of the gala and sponsors of the yearlong anniversary celebration.
Below is the foreword to the book that will be available on Oct. 23.
FOREWORD
"It is with great pleasure … that I write the foreword to our 50th anniversary book, 'Penn State New Kensington, A Historical Perspective.'
This account reflects a Penn State campus that was born out of the need for higher education in the Alle-Kiski Valley, and that expanded to meet the changing needs of its region. Through educational, cultural and athletic programming, Penn State New Kensington has made a significant impact in Western Pennsylvania.
As you browse through the book, you will gain a real sense of the history and character of Penn State New Kensington. From the biographical sketches of my predecessors, to the accomplishments of our students, this celebratory edition provides a glimpse into the life of a vibrant and dynamic Penn State campus that is poised to have an even greater presence and have an even greater economic impact on the region in the future."
