Non-credit courses offered through the Office of Continuing Education at Penn State New Kensington include professional development seminars and workshops, conferences, certificate programs and short courses. These courses do not carry college credit and often are part of a certificate program or are designed to meet the needs of specific skill development. Courses offered in fall 2005 include: Buying and Selling on E-Bay6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 19 and 26, $50; Fall Care for Outdoor Plantings, 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 11 and 18, $40; and Delicious, Delightful and Delovely, 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 2 and 16, $40. The e-Bay course, taught by Shawn Begolly, adjunct faculty member, teaches students how to browse for items on the online auction house and how to set up buying and selling accounts. The planting session, taught by Penn State alumnus Dave Vargo, owner of Arnold Feed and Kiski Plaza Garden Center, discusses the preparation of lawns and landscaping for winter and the planting of shrubs, trees and perennials during the fall season. The cooking class, taught by Barb Summers, home economics faculty at Highlands High School, demonstrates how to make a variety of appetizers and sweets.
