NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — Michele Marcks is the new assistant director of student affairs and student life coordinator at Penn State New Kensington. Marks, who joined the campus community on April 3, has experience in student development programming and student life.

Working out of the Student Life office, Marcks is responsible for student leadership development, student activities, marketing student co-curricular programs, and Web support for student affairs. Her duties include providing administrative support to student clubs and organizations, coordinating cultural programs and events, and advising the Student Government Association.

“I firmly believe in both the importance and power of student involvement outside of the classroom,” Marcks said. “I discovered my life purpose and became a well-rounded individual via undergraduate involvement in campus activities, club membership and working alongside student life advisers. I strive to have a similar impact on the current and future undergraduates who will become our society’s leaders. This position and its responsibilities allow me to have such an impact.”

A resident of Holiday Park, Pennsylvania, Marcks graduated from the University of Delaware with a double major in communications and French studies in 2007. She earned a master’s degree in higher education management from the University of Pittsburgh in 2016.

Prior to joining the campus staff, Marcks was the student development specialist for the Community College of Allegheny County-South. She performed many of the duties at CCAC that she will supervise at the New Kensington campus.

“My new position will allow the Student Life team to create an unforgettable college experience for campus students where learning, life-long memories, self-discovery, and, of course, fun happen outside of the classroom as well,” Marcks said. “Everything from inside the classroom is essential to attending college, but there is so much that could and should happen beyond the classroom walls, and it is my job to help students find and have those additional, vital experiences.”
