UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — For students who are looking to get involved on campus but are unsure where to start, Penn State has a tool that can help.

The Engagement App is a University-wide platform that connects students with the wide range of engagement experiences available to them at Penn State. It’s also a way for students to build a network of students and faculty and staff who share similar interests.

“The opportunities available to Penn State students are virtually endless, but the Engagement App can help students find the experiences that are right for them,” said Michael Zeman, director of the Student Engagement Network (SEN), the Penn State office providing the app. “Whether students are just beginning their engagement journey or are looking to take their engagement to the next level, the app is a one-stop-shop for engagement at Penn State.”

The Engagement App is designed to help students find out-of-classroom opportunities such as student organizations, undergraduate research, study abroad or away, volunteering, internships and more.

With the app, students can:

  • Discover the latest, in-person and virtual events happening at their campus and across Penn State
  • Find, follow and interact with student organizations or academic colleges that fit their interests
  • Share news, opportunities, photos and videos with their network — or the entire Penn State community
  • Join group chats with students and Penn State organizations who share their interests — or create their own
  • Set personal goals and get connected to resources that support their success with the Path Builder

The app, which now has more than 10,000 users, was initially introduced in January. User testing and feedback was used to make refinements and add new features for the launch in the fall 2022 semester. Additional enhancements and features will continue to be added throughout the 2022–23 academic year.

Students are encouraged to go online or download the app from the App Store or Google Play by searching “Penn State Engagement App.” Users log in using WebAccess, and the app will automatically retrieve their Penn State information. SEN staff welcomes feedback, which can be sent to engage@psu.edu.

Faculty and staff can download and sign up for the Engagement App to promote their engagement opportunities among students. Faculty and staff can post events, internships, work-study, undergraduate research positions or other relevant engagement opportunities.

Students can find more engagement resources and programs on the Student Engagement Network website. Students can also visit the Engagement Space at the HUB-Robeson Center to speak with an SEN representative. More information about the app, including user guides, information for arranging a training session, and a video about the app are available on the SEN website

The Student Engagement Network is a joint initiative between Undergraduate Education, Student Affairs and Penn State Outreach. The mission of the Student Engagement Network is to advance the power of participation by connecting students with experiences that empower them to make a positive impact as citizens and leaders of the world.
