UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State launched its new curriculum management system this month that will ultimately fully replace the Curriculum Review & Consultation System (CRCS).

Faculty and staff will use the new Curriculum Information Management (CIM, pronounced “kim”) system to enter proposals to create, edit or drop courses, majors, minors and certificate programs. The curriculum review and approval process will proceed entirely within CIM, and the status of the approval process at any given time will be clearly visible to all. The new system enables users to enter prospectuses for new academic programs and receive feedback from stakeholders before creating a full proposal.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to begin submitting proposals in CIM immediately. However, during a transition period from June 1 to Aug. 12, faculty may choose to submit course and program proposals in CIM or continue to make submissions through CRCS. Incomplete proposals that have not been submitted to the workflow review and approval process in CRCS by Aug. 12 will need to be re-initiated in the CourseLeaf CIM by the proposer.

CIM will accommodate graduate, medical, law and undergraduate courses and programs. Colleges have customized workflows to accommodate the unique processes within each college. Penn State’s curriculum approval process is overseen by the University Faculty Senate, and policies governing the approval process can be found at senate.psu.edu

The new system will also automatically transfer approved curricular updates to LionPATH and the University Bulletins. This was previously done manually.

For CIM access, information on the system and tutorials on how to use the system, including information on specific aspects of the forms, go to the cim.psu.edu website.

CIM is a product of CourseLeaf, the same vendor responsible for creating the University Bulletin.
