UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Faculty Senate Office and the Office of the University Registrar announced a change of responsibility for the updating and maintenance of the Course Catalog in LionPATH. The changes are effective Nov. 30.
The Course Catalog in LionPATH is the foundation used for class scheduling, degree audits and obtaining transcripts, and is connected closely to the University Bulletin. Updating and overseeing maintenance of the Course Catalog is an important function and has many impacts to students, academic departments, faculty and alumni.
The Office of the University Registrar will assume the responsibilities of updating and maintaining the course catalog in LionPATH. Transitioning these duties from the Faculty Senate Office to the Registrar began this fall and were completed in November. The Faculty Senate Office will maintain all responsibility for the proposals and curriculum procedures in LionPATH. The new adjustments in duties will have benefits to both offices as they move forward with the new Curriculum Information Management system project, which will provide greater efficiencies and integrate the submission of course proposals into LionPATH.
The procedural change aligns with the priorities of both offices. It gives staff in the University Faculty Senate Office more time to focus on other critical operations and functions, such as the oversight of the proposals and curriculum processes. The Office of the University Registrar, whose staff members possess an in-depth understanding of how the catalog can affect class scheduling as well as the degree audit process, will be better equipped to troubleshoot in the system when issues do arise. Maintenance of the University Bulletins, which is closely tied to the Course Catalog, is housed in the Office of the University Registrar and the change will allow the office to better align updates to both systems.
