UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — WPSU is providing a new way for community members to share their perspectives, feedback and questions with Talk to WPSU, a one-button web tool that can record high-quality audio through the WPSU website. The recordings will be used as part of stories featured on television and radio programs and across the WPSU platform.

Anne Danahy, reporter for WPSU, said the audio recordings will help the public media provider learn more from listeners and viewers from around the coverage area — which includes central and northern Pennsylvania.

“I like to think of it as a letter to the editor for radio and television,” Danahy said. “We are asking people to weigh in about rising costs, the impact higher prices are having on them. When we cover elections and politicians, Talk to WPSU will enable us to hear directly from Pennsylvanians about what’s important to them and what questions they have for elected officials. It will also be used to gather broader feedback about WPSU.”

Talk to WPSU was designed to be an easy and fun tool for audience members to use.

“The multimedia team that created the tool designed it so anyone with a computer, smartphone or tablet can use it with ease,” Danahy said. “While recording, you can hit pause. When you’re done, you can listen to your recording and if you don’t like it, you can delete it and start over. It’s very low pressure.”

Danahy said the Talk to WPSU tool can provide an in-depth look at the concerns of the WPSU community and lead to adjustments in future programming to meet those needs.

“WPSU is a public media outlet, and this is a great way for us to hear from the public and include those opinions in our stories,” Danahy said. “It is also a way for the community to share their thoughts, perspectives, feedback and questions with us.”

WPSU serves 24 counties in central Pennsylvania and reaches 515,000 households, and WPSU-FM is accessible to more than 450,000 listeners in 13 counties. The public media station also includes WPSU Digital Studios, which offers original web series that explore science, arts and culture. WPSU is a service of Penn State Outreach.
