Pennsylvania College of Technology recently appointed a director for the Robert and Maureen Dunham Children’s Learning Center, an early childhood education facility for the children of the college’s students and employees.
Barbara J. Albert, who has been employed by Penn College since 1994, began her new duties July 1.
Albert taught kindergarten and preschool before joining the staff at the Children’s Learning Center, where she continued to teach preschool, as well as toddlers.
In 2001, Albert received the Child Care Teacher Recognition Award from the Terri Lynne Lockoff Child Care Foundation. In 2008, she joined the staff of Penn College’s early childhood education major as the program specialist.
“We are pleased to have Ms. Albert continue the leadership at the CLC,” said Paul R. Watson, assistant dean of sciences, humanities and visual communications. “She brings great dedication and professionalism to the role before her. We have faith that Ms. Albert will take up the mantle before her and continue to lead the CLC as a model center, an educationally stimulating and exciting place to be around.”
Albert holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Bucknell University and a master’s degree in human development and family studies from Penn State.
She is a member of the Keystone STARS Advisory Committee, treasurer of the Central Susquehanna Association for the Education of Young Children, and a certified Pennsylvania Quality Assurance System Instructor, providing professional development and technical assistance to others in the field.
She replaces longtime director Karen Woland Payne, whose retirement is effective July 31.
The Children’s Learning Center at Penn College cares for children between the ages of 14 months and 5 years. The center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the Middle States Commission on Elementary Education. It is a Star 4 facility, the highest recognition level available through Pennsylvania’s Keystone STARS program.
