Caleb G. Schirmer named ‘Student of the Month’ at Penn College

Caleb G. Schirmer, of Sugarloaf, a technology management major at Pennsylvania College of Technology, has been chosen as the February Student of the Month.

Schirmer, who earned an associate degree in landscape/horticulture technology: landscape emphasis in 2014, is president of the Off-Campus Housing Organization and secretary of Students Making a Contribution.

He is also a member of Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ), a Student Government Association senator from the School of Business & Hospitality, and an English tutor in Penn College’s Writing Center. He supports a number of additional student organizations, including the Horticulture Club and Penn College Benefiting THON.

“He has shown that he is a role model for all students through volunteer work with SMAC, Student Leadership Boot Camp, his work in the Writing Center and much, much more,” his nominator wrote. “He is always the first person to take on club projects and help out wherever needed. Caleb always puts the needs of others before his own – whether they be staff, students or strangers.”

Readily acknowledged as beneficial to others, Schirmer’s positive attitude and willingness to work have also paid off in his personal growth.

“Through his increased involvement on campus, he has become more confident, open to change and motivated,” the nominator continued. “He is well-liked by everyone he meets … and brings a bright personality and charm to Penn College. He truly embodies what a student leader – and a Student of the Month – should be.”

SGA recognition is bestowed numerous times each academic year based on students’ commitment, service, role-model behavior, academics, leadership and campus involvement.
