WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Artwork created by Gerald G. Kaplan, instructor of ceramics at Pennsylvania College of Technology, is on display through April 27 in a national juried exhibition at the Saratoga Clay Arts Center’s Schacht Gallery in Schuylerville, New York.

“Color Pop!” opened March 16 and showcases 60 functional and decorative works by 42 clay artists, including Kaplan’s piece, “Tusk.” Featuring three life-size heads, the wall hangings were crafted with earthenware, underglaze, glaze, oxide washes, gold luster and multiple firings.

The exhibition features ceramic works that utilize color theory to express ideas and emotions, increase depth and contrast, and enhance style and a sense of playfulness.

Located eight miles from Saratoga Springs, the Saratoga Clay Arts Center’s mission is to promote the ceramic arts, provide a place for people to explore the medium of clay, hone and develop their skills, and create a community of collaboration between faculty, visiting clay artists, students and visitors. It is home to 30 clay artists offering year-round classes in wheel throwing and hand building to adults and children of all skill levels.

Kaplan earned a master of fine arts in visual arts from Wilson College, a master of education in gifted and talented education from Converse College, and a bachelor of science in art education: studio focus from Penn State.
