Before coming to Penn College, Reed was head principal at Williamsport Area High School and served as the director of SciTech High School, a STEM magnet school partnering with Harrisburg University of Science and Technology.
He succeeds Paul L. Starkey, who will return to teaching; he joins the business administration faculty at the college this fall.
In his new role, Reed will oversee all academic operations at the college. He will continue to serve as a member of President’s Council and will chair Deans’ Council.
“Mike has a wealth of experience in educational administration at both the secondary and postsecondary levels,” said President Davie Jane Gilmour. “He is a proven leader and innovator, making him well-suited to lead and inspire faculty at this institution. I welcome the energy, ideas and commitment he brings to this new role.”
Reed completed his doctoral studies through Drexel University with a concentration in educational leadership, focusing on innovation, sustainable systems and evidence-based professional development models.
He also holds a master’s degree and school counseling certification from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. His school administrative certifications were awarded through Penn State, and he earned a bachelor of science in secondary education from Clarion University.
A Pittsburgh native, Reed serves as vice chair on The Salvation Army of Williamsport’s Advisory Board, has provided mentorship and professional development to K-12 leadership teams throughout the state, and has assisted multiple youth-development programs throughout the Williamsport community.
