WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A former computer engineer turned motivational speaker will share his dynamic insights on “Bridging the Digital Divide: Unlocking Access and Opportunity in Education” during a Nov. 6 presentation of the Technology & Society Colloquia Series at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
Lasada “LP” Pippen will headline the Wednesday discussion, set for 6 to 7 p.m. in the Presentation Room of the Davie Jane Gilmour Center. Refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The colloquia discussion will focus on the connection between society and technology, specifically the digital divide and opportunity gaps technology can create and close for first-generation and historically marginalized students. The topic is particularly relevant to Penn College and the greater Williamsport area, as residents increasingly rely on digital access and use artificial intelligence in educational settings. Those working in education are encouraged to attend this insightful conversation.
“We are looking forward to starting the conversation and allowing connections to be made with schools, resources and professionals who are working to close the digital equity gaps in the community,” said Kaysey L. Beury, coordinator of student success solutions.
Pippen, a first-generation college graduate, bilingual STEM expert and published author, thrived in the tech industry for over a decade, but a deeper purpose led him to a surprising career pivot. He is now a highly sought-after keynote speaker, leveraging his unique blend of STEM expertise and infectious energy to ignite the next generation and the adults who support them.
During the colloquia conversation, Pippen will be joined by Daniel J. Clasby, assistant dean of academic operations at Penn College. The session will begin with dialogue, followed by audience participation. Attendees are encouraged to bring their questions and be prepared to delve into an intellectual discussion.
Earlier in the day, Pippen will deliver a keynote address to Penn College students, focusing on turning obstacles into opportunities. Connecting his experience and STEM studies, his inspiring talk will share the benefits of persistence and perseverance in STEM.
