Le Jeune Chef Restaurant earns ‘Wine Spectator’ honors

Wine Spectator magazine recently released its annual Restaurant Wine List Awards program, again naming Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Le Jeune Chef Restaurant among the “Best of Award of Excellence” recipients.

The restaurant is one of 850 worldwide to earn the magazine’s second-tier “Best of” award. Only 73 restaurants received the top-tier “Grand Award,” and 2,870 restaurants received the magazine’s “Award of Excellence.”

Wine Spectator’s 2013 Restaurant Wine Awards are listed in the magazine’s annual Dining Guide, published in the Aug. 31 issue. A total of 101 Pennsylvania restaurants are recognized on the list, including Williamsport’s DiSalvo’s restaurant. Le Jeune Chef Restaurant is among only 13 “Best of” recipients in the state.

A robust wine list helps to fulfill Le Jeune Chef’s role in offering “an education in fine dining,” providing opportunities for the hospitality management and culinary arts students who gain hands-on experience in the restaurant to learn about wine service and food-and-wine pairings, and benefiting patrons who wish to learn more about wine.

To receive a Wine Spectator award, a restaurant must offer a wine list that includes wines appropriate to its cuisine, while appealing to a wide range of wine lovers. The list also must present complete and accurate wine information.

The “Best of Award of Excellence” gives special recognition to those restaurants that exceed the requirements of the “Award of Excellence.” These lists display either vintage depth, with vertical offerings of several top producers from major regions, or excellent breadth spread over several wine-growing regions. Lists at this level typically offer 400 or more selections, with superior presentation.

Le Jeune Chef’s wine list offers 475 selections, encompassing major varieties from the world’s key wine-producing regions. It has received the “Best of Award of Excellence” every year since 2000. It received the “Award of Excellence” each year from 1995-99.
