Penn College graphic design students, alumni capture 20 awards

Pennsylvania College of Technology graphic design alumna Taylor J. Leshock’s “Hot Sauce Packaging” design captured a gold award in the American Advertising Awards Competition presented by the Northeast Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Advertising Federation. The Shamokin resident’s entry went on to win a regional silver in the AAA competition. She repeated these wins with another design entry. WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Graphic design students and alumni from Pennsylvania College of Technology netted 20 awards in the 2023-24 American Advertising Awards Competition presented by the Northeast Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Advertising Federation.

Penn College designs captured seven gold awards, eight silvers and five honorable mentions. Entries are judged in professional and student categories, with the college students’ work in the latter.

Taylor J. Leshock, a 2023 graphic design graduate from Shamokin, earned two gold awards – and both of her designs moved on to the next level of competition, winning regional silver awards. She was honored in the Packaging category for her Hot Sauce Packaging and Cloak & Dagger Brewing Co. Packaging.

Graphic design seniors John P. Greenwald, of Manheim, and Duncan C. Wentzel, of Huntingdon, each captured two gold awards. Brock R. Hower, of Montoursville, earned one gold award.

Greenwald’s Folio to Film Book Cover Series was honored in the Publication Design category, and his Broken Mirror Brewery Packaging won in the Packaging category. Wentzel’s works were recognized in Packaging – Ridge Potato Chip Packaging and Beer Can Designs. Hower won in Packaging for Rue Morgue Ale Works Variety Pack.

Greenwald also earned a silver award in Packaging for Steel City Creamery Ice Cream Pint. Other silvers went to graphic design seniors Taryn M. Donovan, of Lock Haven, and Sarah N. Nugent, of Russell; and 2023 graduates Alexander G. Geyer, of Montoursville; Justin R. Guthrie, of Mifflinburg; Antonia E. Novosel, of Mifflinburg; and Molly A. Raser, of Birdsboro.

Nugent received two silvers – in Publication Design for The History of Jazz Book Jacket and in the Online/Interactive App category for her Donut Shop App. Geyer also captured two silvers – for Book Jacket Series in Publication Design and Cthulhu Cream Ale in Packaging.

The other recognitions were as follows: Donovan in Publication Design for A Rumor of War Book Jacket; Guthrie in Online/Interactive App for Unoia Mental Health App; Novosel in the Stationery Package category for her Oak Ridge Logo & Stationery; and Raser in Packaging for Far West Fungi Grow Kit.

Honorable mentions were given to graphic design senior Renae Mack, of Selinsgrove; and Guthrie, Hower, Novosel and Nugent.

Penn College graphic design students and alumni consistently earn recognition in regional, national and international design competitions.
