WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Tijana Mrkalj, a student in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s health information management major, was named one of two recipients of a $1,000 Pennsylvania Health Information Management Association Scholarship for 2022.

Each year, the association awards education scholarships to students who demonstrate academic achievement and commitment to the field of health information management in Pennsylvania.

Mrkalj, of Pittsburgh, was honored during the PHIMA annual conference in Lancaster on April 25. During the two-day conference, she attended educational sessions, heard from keynote speakers, and networked with vendors and other health information professionals.

A Dean’s List student, she is the student liaison for the Central Pennsylvania Health Information Management Association, through which she received a $500 scholarship earlier this year, and recently completed an internship with Penn State University Health Services. She served as secretary for the college’s Health Information Association student club and was a one-year member of the college’s women’s tennis team.

She already holds the Certified Coding Associate credential, offered through the American Health Information Management Association, following a comprehensive national exam.
