Welding instructor to offer his ‘Last Words’ during lecture series

A Pennsylvania College of Technology welding instructor hopes to spark conversation and reflection when he takes the stage as the featured presenter for a popular campus lecture series.Ryan P. Good will be the speaker for the annual David London My Last Words Lecture Series. The event challenges faculty members, nominated by students and alumni, to express their thoughts as if they knew it was their final opportunity to share insight and offer inspiration.“Rock Your Revolution” is the title of Good’s speech, scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, in the Klump Academic Center Auditorium. A plaque presentation and reception will follow the lecture, which is free and open to the public.According to Good, his speech will focus on the actions that an individual can take to increase the likelihood of success as one evolves. He plans to identify areas that all people should consider for personal growth and show how striving for excellence attracts additional success that has a positive impact on one’s sphere of influence.Good, who earned a bachelor’s degree in welding and fabrication engineering technology and an associate degree in welding technology from Penn College, joined the faculty in 2009. He received an Excellence in Teaching Award from the college in May.Previously, he was the lead weld engineer for Dana Holding Corp., a world-leading supplier of driveline, sealing and thermal-management technologies for passenger, commercial and off-highway vehicles.David J. Munn, of Athens, and Jarad J. Askren, of Warrensburg, Mo., both welding and fabrication engineering technology students, nominated Good for the honor.Begun in February 2006, the My Last Words Lecture Series was renamed during 2008-09 in honor of David A. London, an associate professor of speech communication/composition who died in May 2008.London joined the Penn College faculty in 1990.
