PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Is career advancement part of your goals for 2019? According to a recent study by Inc.com, many professionals indicated finding a new job was part of their new year’s resolution.

To help Philadelphia professionals get noticed on LinkedIn, expand their network, and land their next job, Penn State is partnering with Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) this winter to offer two events at Penn State’s location at Navy Yard.

The events kick off on Feb. 27 with “Success on Social: Using LinkedIn and other platforms to expand your network,” a lunchtime panel discussion from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. on leveraging social networking platforms for career advancement. Panelists include Kristen Berman, CEO and creative producer at Philly MADE Creative; Kenny Dubin, CEO of The Dubin Group; Kate Marlys, owner of Philly PR Girl; and Marquis Upshur, vice president of human resources at PIDC. The event is free to attend, but advance registration is required.

And because every professional needs a headshot, PIDC and Penn State at the Navy Yard will hold “Headshot Happy Hour” on March 14 starting at 5 p.m. Each attendee will get a chance in front of the camera followed by networking and light refreshments. Tickets are $5; interested individuals can reserve their timeslot online.

“There are so many unique companies that call the Navy Yard home,” said Suzanne Cruit, associate director of corporate and community relations at Penn State at the Navy Yard. “Having fun, educational workshops and networking events is a great way to bring people together and contribute to the Navy Yard’s sense of community. We’re excited to partner with PIDC to offer new programming to enhance the quality of the Navy Yard’s work life.”
