Penn State Sustainability
Engaged Scholarship Community of Practice meeting
9:30 AM - 10:30 AM / January 29, 2026
The Sustainable Communities Collaborative and Living Labs program convene an Engaged Scholarship Community of Practice meeting twice each semester. These are designed to meet the needs and interests of faculty who are doing — or interested in doing — experiential learning in their courses, with their students, and/or as a research focus.
The January meeting topic is “Community Engaged Research & Teaching: what, how, why?” with a special presentation from Laura Haniford, chair of the Department of Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Drawing from her chapter “Tourist Teachers and Layers of Colonization: Lessons from New Mexico” from Self-Studies in Urban Teacher Education, she will provide insight and advice for faculty seeking to start or improve their engaged scholarship work.
Q&A and sharing among attendees will follow. Faculty from all Penn State campuses are welcome to attend.
Registration for the Engaged Scholarship Community of Practice meeting on Thursday, Jan. 29, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. can be completed via the form at PSU Engaged Scholarship Community of Practice REGISTRATION January 29, 2026.
