UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State's Africana Research Center (ARC) recently announced its 2017-18 "Food for Thought" series schedule. The ARC provides monetary support for scholars whose primary research centers on the African Diaspora, then scholars present a talk to discuss the results of their research. These free monthly talks are held from noon to 1 p.m. in 217 Willard Building and are open to the public. Free pizza and refreshments will be provided.
Sept. 11: Carla D. Pratt presents “Subordination Now; Subordination Forever: Examining America’s Tolerance for Racial Inequality”
Oct. 16: Jenna Christian presents “Militarized Youth: Citizenship, Soldiering, Incarceration, and Young People's Futures"
Nov. 13: B. Stephen Carpenter II presents “The African Diaspora Water Crisis Curriculum Project: An Arts-Based Collaboration” (this talk will be held from 12:15-1:15 p.m.)
Dec. 4: Julie Gallagher presents "Transforming the State, Building the Peace: Liberian Women’s Activism in Recent Historical Perspective"
Feb. 26: Ebony Coletu presents “Garvey’s Muse: Chief Sam and the African Movement"
March 26: Alicia Decker presents “Women and the Specter of Militarism: A Gendered History of Uganda after Military Rule”
April 2: Margaret (Molly) Ariotti presents "Public Good Provision and Local Administration in Francophone Africa"
