Andrew Ott announced as keynote speaker for Energy Days conference

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State alumnus Andrew Ott has been announced as a keynote speaker for the 2019 Energy Days conference. Ott is the chief executive officer and president of PJM Interconnection LLC, the largest power grid in North America. He has been in this role since October 2015.

“Andy Ott is among the most widely admired energy executives in the world,” said Tom Richard, director of the Institutes of Energy and the Environment. “PJM manages the largest electricity market on Earth, and his leadership and innovation have forged a path for market transformation that enhances grid stability, energy security and affordability, while accommodating rapid growth of natural gas and renewables.”

Ott has extensive experience in power system engineering, transmission planning, applied mathematics, electricity market design and implementation. He is internationally recognized as an expert in electricity market design.

Additionally, he serves on the board of directors for the Wholesale Electricity Quadrant of the North American Energy Standards Board. He also is the U.S. representative and working group chair for the CIGRE (International Council on Large Electric Systems) Study Committee on Electricity Markets and Regulation.

His previous roles at PJM include executive vice president of markets and as a senior vice president of markets. Prior to joining PJM, Ott worked for 13 years in transmission planning and operations at General Public Utilities.

The fourth annual Energy Days conference will be held May 29-30 at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center.

Energy Days is a two-day conference that brings together the energy expertise of Penn State with those working in and with the energy industry. The goal is to develop partnerships to help improve the affordability, sustainability, safety and security of energy in the future.
