Center for Geriatric Nursing Excellence co-sponsoring the 2019 GIN Conference

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The College of Nursing’s Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence (CGNE), in collaboration with the College of Nursing Outreach office, and the Geriatric Interest Network (GIN) of Centre Country will host the Fall 2019 Centre County GIN Conference from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at the Toftrees Conference Center in State College, Pennsylvania.

Maggie Calkins, who presented at last year’s seventh annual CGNE Alumni & Friends Spring Brunch, will be returning to Happy Valley to showcase her expertise and work in this full-day event. Calkins is president of IDEAS: Innovative Designs in Environments for an Aging Society, a consulting firm that improves care and quality of life for older adults through therapeutic physical, social and organizational environments. Calkins is nationally recognized as an innovative expert and dynamic leader in architectural research and gerontology, with a background in psychology. 

Calkins is the keynote speaker for the “Enhancing Care with Supportive Environments” conference, as well as presenting four different presentations: "Evidence-Based Design," "Renovating Existing Settings to Better Support Individuals Living with Dementia," "Lessons from a Researcher in the Field," and "Environmental Assessment Tools and Scales."  

Attendees can receive up to six contact hours of continuing education available for several disciplines.  

Admittance to the event costs $65 for a GIN member and $80 for any non-GIN member, which includes breakfast, lunch, snacks, program materials and CEUs (continuing education units).
