HERSHEY, Pa. -- Gavin P. Robertson, professor of pharmacology, pathology, dermatology and surgery at Penn State Hershey, will present “Melanoma Cell Plasticity: Can this Disease be Cured?” at the spring Dean’s Lecture at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, in the Junker Auditorium on the Hershey campus.
Robertson’s research program focuses on malignant melanoma. The central goal of his program is to unravel the biology and signaling pathways involved in melanoma tumor development to develop the next generation of therapeutic agents to treat this disease. Specifically, it involves identification and validation of novel therapeutic targets, discovery and development of new therapies and clinical evaluation of these drugs in patients.
Following the lecture, the inaugural Faculty Research Recognition Awards will be held to honor the outstanding research achievements of Penn State Hershey investigators. The event will highlight investigators who have distinguished themselves in several areas of research. Faculty will be recognized through awards for the following categories; outstanding research publication, distinguished early stage investigator, innovation in team science, and excellence in education research.
The Dean’s Lecture is jointly sponsored by the Faculty Organization of the College of Medicine and the Office of the Dean and CEO. The Research Awards are sponsored by the Office of the Vice Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and the Unified Research Team.
