Dean’s Lecture and Research Recognition Awards set for May 10

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Nina G. Jablonski, professor of anthropology and director of the Center for Human Evolution and Diversity, will present “Skin Pigmentation and Modern Human Life: How the Evolution of a Phenotypic Trait illustrates the Ill Consequences of Modernity” at the Dean’s Lecture on Tuesday, May 10 at 4 p.m. in the Junker Auditorium on the Penn State College of Medicine campus.

Jablonski’s research program is focused in two major areas. Her paleoanthropological research concerns the evolutionary history of Old World monkeys and currently includes an active field project in China. She is currently collaborating on the development of new approaches to science education in the United States. These approaches seek to improve the understanding of evolution and human diversity and stimulate students to pursue careers and courses in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

Following the lecture, the Research Recognition Awards will be held to honor the outstanding research achievements of Penn State College of Medicine/Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center investigators. The event will highlight investigators who have distinguished themselves in several categories:

Outstanding Research Publication, Excellence in Education Research, Distinguished Early Stage Investigator, Outstanding Collaborative Research, Career Citation Milestone and the Career Research Excellence Award.

A reception will follow the awards ceremony. For more information on the Research Recognition Awards click here.

The Dean’s Lecture is jointly sponsored by the Faculty Organization of the College of Medicine and the Office of the Dean and CEO. The Research Recognition Awards are sponsored by the Office of the Vice Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and the Unified Campus Research Team.
