EESI EarthTalks: Climate scientist Kerry Emanuel to discuss policy options

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Renowned meteorologist and climate scientist Kerry Emanuel, Cecil and Ida Green Professor of Atmospheric Science at MIT, will discuss policy options to slow global warming at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25. The talk, which is free and open to the public, will be broadcast via Zoom at this link.

Emanuel is co-founder and co-director of the MIT Lorenz Center, a climate think tank. He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers and three books, including “What We Know about Climate Change.” Time magazine named him one of its 100 most influential people in 2006. He was elected a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences in 2007 and a Foreign Member of the Royal Society, London, in 2020.

Emanuel’s talk is part of the spring 2021 EarthTalks series, “Energy and climate policy: How to avoid a global hothouse,” offered by the Earth and Environmental Systems Institute at Penn State. The series focuses on policies and technology that could help slow down global warming and addresses topics such as carbon taxes, renewable energy subsidies and the feasibility of carbon sequestration.
