UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Institutes of Energy and the Environment (IEE) has announced a call for sessions for Energy Days 2019. Researchers and extension staff are encouraged to submit session proposals that offer insight on clean, safe, affordable and abundant energy. Submissions are due by 5 p.m. on Jan. 18, 2019.

Sessions for Energy Days are designed to elicit input and engagement from a diverse range of stakeholders, and attendees are encouraged to be active participants. Findings from Energy Days are collected by session leaders which are then distilled into actionable projects.

“During the past three years, Energy Days has helped bring leaders from the energy field together to create new partnerships that provide results and innovative solutions to energy challenges,” said Tom Richard, IEE’s director. “By creating a time and place for people to talk with each other about research, education and collaboration opportunities, we are already seeing new partnerships develop.”

Richard noted a highlight of Energy Days 2018 was the announcement of Penn State’s new partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission of Europe on the Global Building Network. One of the keynote speakers in 2018, Ed Mazria, founder and CEO of Architecture 2030, discussed the opportunity for addressing the challenge of global buildings.

In support of Penn State’s Energy University initiative, faculty and staff are leading several active working groups that began as Energy Days sessions. Some of these include Energy 2100, a University Strategic Plan Implementation-funded project that aims to ensure a carbon-neutral, global energy economy; Energy Extension, a working group developing a framework for energy-based extension education; and Energy Education, which is working with industry partners and information tools to inform undergraduate and graduate curriculum around the needs of industry and markets.

This year’s Energy Days conference will occur on May 29-30, 2019, at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center. In addition to proposing sessions, suggestions for speakers or topics you would like to see covered can be emailed iee@psu.edu
