UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The 2019 Child Maltreatment Solutions Network Conference, being held Sept. 23-24 at the Nittany Lion Inn on Penn State’s University Park campus, will focus on identifying and addressing the obstacles within the foster care system by translating research and evidence-based solutions into effective policy.

The conference, "The Future of Foster Care: New Science to Address Old Problems," will offer sessions centered around solutions to the most pressing challenges that foster-care systems face.

Session topics include what is currently happening in foster care, opportunities for innovation within the foster care system, innovative practices for the next generation of foster youth, and a roundtable discussion featuring current and former child-welfare administrators.

Small group discussions will be incorporated after each session to allow communication between researchers, trainees and practitioners on how to utilize the findings and material presented throughout the event.

Registration currently is open and will take place up until Friday, Sept. 6. Additionally, all Penn State faculty, staff and students can register for the conference at a reduced rate.

The Child Maltreatment Solutions Network was created to advance Penn State’s academic mission of teaching, research and engagement in the area of child maltreatment. Since the Solutions Network was launched in Fall 2012, its conferences have established a concrete frontier of understanding child maltreatment through advanced research. It is part of the Social Science Research Institute at Penn State.
