HERSHEY, Pa. — Dr. Chandrika Gowda, assistant professor of pediatrics at Penn State College of Medicine, has received a St. Baldrick's Foundation Scholar Award for her research project titled "Targeting Casein Kinase (CK2) oncogenic signaling in high-risk B-Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL)."
The three-to-five year, $330,000 grant supports Gowda and her mentor, Dr. Sinisa Dovat, in their study of a novel therapeutic approach for treating high-risk leukemia.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation Scholar Award is a highly competitive national peer-reviewed grant designed to encourage young physician scientists to pursue breakthrough research to cure childhood cancer.
In all, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation awarded 90 new grants totaling $23.5 million in its summer grant cycle to support pediatric cancer research.
Gowda also recently received the 2017 Young Investigator Award.
