HHD Dean's Lecture Series to address lessons from China during COVID-19 pandemic

Lecture part of College of Health and Human Development Dean's Lecture Series: Perspectives on the Pandemic

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State College of Health and Human Development will host Yuanli Liu, dean of the School of Public Health at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, for the next presentation in the Dean’s Lecture Series: Perspectives on the Pandemic.

Liu's presentation is titled "Confronting the COVID-19 Pandemic: Major Lessons from China."

After two months of an intensive and innovative national anti-pandemic campaign, China successfully managed to bring the COVID-19 crisis under control. Liu, who also serves as a senior policy adviser to the Chinese government, will provide a comprehensive analysis of the major interventions undertaken in China and share lessons that can be learned from China by other countries.

About the presenter

Since 2013, Liu has served as professor of health policy and management and dean of the School of Public Health at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College. 

Liu has been closely involved in China's major health care reform and development initiatives as an applied health policy researcher since 1993. He currently serves as a member of the State Council Healthcare Reform Expert Committee, president of the Chinese Aging Well Association, and vice chairman of the National Commission on Health Promotion and Education. From 1993 to 2013, Liu worked at Harvard University in the area of global health. He has consulted for many international organizations, including the World Health Organization, the World Bank, and Fortune 500 companies.
