Inaugural interdisciplinary lecture to address abiotic, biotic health in plants

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology at Penn State will host an inaugural lecture on research that could help mitigate the impacts of climate change on abiotic and biotic stress in plants.

The Eva Pell Interdisciplinary Lecture on Plant Health will address the topic, "Where do abiotic and biotic stress overlap?" from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, in Foster Auditorium, 102 Paterno Library, University Park campus.

The lecture will feature Eva J. Pell, former undersecretary for science at the Smithsonian Institution; and former senior vice president for Research and dean of the Graduate School, and emerita professor of plant pathology at Penn State; and Julia Bailey-Serres, director of the Center for Plant Cell Biology and distinguished professor of genetics at the University of California, Riverside.

Participating Penn State panelists include Sally Assmann, Waller Professor of Biology; Francesco Di Gioia, assistant professor of vegetable crop science and plant science; and Jonathan Lynch, distinguished professor of plant science.
