Linda Burton to deliver De Jong Lecture in Social Demography on Nov. 8

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Linda M. Burton, dean of social sciences and professor of sociology at Duke University, will deliver the 12th annual De Jong Lecture in Social Demography at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 8 at the Nittany Lion Inn on Penn State’s University Park campus.

Burton, who was a professor of sociology and human development and family studies at Penn State from 1998 to 2006, will recount a case study of a biracial child in small-town Pennsylvania, part of a 30-year ethnographic study of family life, race and poverty. The De Jong Lecture is supported by the Caroline M. and Gordon F. DeJong Lectureship in Social Demography Endowment. It is administered jointly by the Department of Sociology and the Population Research Institute.
