UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Students and community members are invited to enjoy a delicious local meal, followed by a screening of the movie “Dirt!” and panel discussion as part of Local Foods Night hosted by Housing and Food Services (HFS) and the Student Farm Club. The event will take place from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 18 in Redifer Dining Commons, located in South Halls on Penn State’s University Park campus.

In celebration of local food and Penn State’s campus food system, HFS chefs will incorporate locally grown vegetables and other products into the dishes served. Items from the Student Farm at Penn State and area farmers and producers will be served.

All students and members of the local community are invited to attend. A campus meal plan is not required. Following the meal, guests are also encouraged to attend the documentary film screening of “Dirt!” from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in 103 Redifer.

Based on the book “Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth,” the award-winning documentary examines the relationship between humans and the soil that nourishes us through the food we eat. After the film, guests are invited to participate in a panel discussion facilitated by Student Farm Club members to talk about local food, agriculture and other sustainability topics.
