UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Materials Characterization Laboratory and the Materials Research Institute have recently entered an agreement to provide access to an additional materials structure database.
The Cambridge Structural Database contains more than a half-million X-ray and neutron diffraction analyses, primarily of small molecule organic and metal-organic crystal structures. This database will have wide interest for scientists and engineers in disciplines ranging from agricultural and food sciences, to geosciences, materials, medicine, chemistry and chemical engineering.
University Park faculty, staff and students can access the database at http://webcsd.ccdc.cam.ac.uk/ from a computer with an IP address of University Park. Access will also be available on computers located in the Characterization Commons in the Millennium Science Complex and the X-ray Scattering Facility (N-008 MSC). Once accessed, the structures can be exported to research and teaching software programs to draw crystal structures or to compare to experimental X-ray diffraction data.
The Cambridge Structural Database is available free for 2015, after which a decision to license the software will be determined based on user response.
