UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The staff of "Research/Penn State" magazine is looking for research images to run as part of the publication’s “At Large” feature. The winning photographer will receive a high-quality print of the image used in the magazine, suitable for framing. Runners-up may be featured on Penn State social media channels. Deadline for submission is Friday, June 30, 2017.
Submitted photos:
- Must relate to research being conducted by someone at Penn State
- Must be visually compelling
- Must be horizontal and able to fill a two-page spread
- Must be available at a resolution of at least 300 dpi at a size of 11" x 17".
- Can be a scenic, a close-up or a micrograph
- Can be realistic or abstract, color or black and white
- Can include a person but should not be a portrait.

The most recent winner (above) shows small fishing boats off the coast of Zanzibar. It was shot by Janet Purdy, a doctoral candidate in history of art and architecture, when she visited the area while doing research on trade routes and the elaborately carved doors that adorned the houses of wealthy merchants in the 1800s. "Research/Penn State" is a biennial publication with a circulation of more than 32,000, covering research and creative activity at the University.
