UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Institute for Sustainable Agricultural, Food, and Environmental Science (SAFES) and Penn State’s Center for Security Research and Education (CSRE) are collaborating to support research related to the protection of the nation’s food and water supplies and associated critical infrastructure.

The Fall 2021 program is open to any proposal relating to CSRE's security-related mission, but will specifically encourage proposals related to:

  • Protection of food and water supplies from cyberattacks at all stages of the production and distribution processes.
  • Food or water supply contamination or disruption, including accidental or intentional food contamination, or natural or human attack on a food transportation or energy source.
  • Disease and pests, resulting from exposure during international or national movement through the supply chain, or from the harmful effects of severe weather coupled with global climate change.

CSRE Associate Director Jon Hodgson will present an informational session on the CSRE grant opportunities at noon on Sept. 2 via Zoom. Register at this link.

Read the full CSRE Grant RFP here. SAFES can support interdisciplinary teams looking to integrate research expertise in the areas of food, water and environment; investigators who are interested in joining an interdisciplinary team are encouraged to contact safes@psu.edu.
