Society for Prevention Research honors Penn State researchers

John Graham, Linda Collins and Mark Greenberg named as Fellows

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Three distinguished Penn State researchers -- John Graham, Linda Collins, and Mark Greenberg, all from the College of Health and Human Development -- were named Society for Prevention Research Fellows at the Society’s 2015 annual meeting. 

This honor was established in 2013, when the Society for Prevention Research began to bestow the the title of Fellow on scientists who have created a distinguished body of work with a broad and significant impact on prevention science.  

John W. Graham is professor of biobehavioral health and human development and family studies. He was recognized for his work advancing prevention research methodology and for addressing practical issues that matter to prevention scientists, especially related to the handling of missing data.

Linda Collins is Distinguished Professor of Human Development and Family Studies and statistics and director of The Methodology Center. She was recognized for her current work on the multiphase optimization strategy and for her contributions in helping to bring latent class models to prevention science.

Mark T. Greenberg is the Edna Peterson Bennett Endowed Chair in Prevention Research, professor of human development and psychology, and founding director of the Prevention Research Center. He was recognized for a broad portfolio of research, including his work developing interventions to reduce risk for aggression and violence, and for his research on mindfulness interventions.  

Additionally, Diana H. Fishbein, incoming director of the Edna Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center, has received the Society for Prevention Research Public Service Award along with Neil Wollman, Senior Fellow at Bentley Alliance for Ethics and Social Responsibility at Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Fishbein and Wollman were recognized for their work establishing the National Prevention Science Coalition to Improve Lives, of which the Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center is a member. As director of the Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center, Fishbein will hold the C. Eugene Bennett Chair in Prevention Research and be a professor of human development and family studies.

The Society for Prevention Research exists to promote investigation of the etiology and prevention of social, physical and mental health problems. Researchers from Penn State have been highly active in the society across its 24-year history.
