The lecture and awards ceremony are part of the Humanities Institute’s daylong “Annual Event Celebrating the Humanities,” which promotes the significant role that the humanities play in tackling today’s most vexing issues, and highlights the institute’s contributions by conducting socially relevant research and by educating future generations of humanities scholars.
Other events scheduled during the day include an open house from 1:30 to 3:30 at Ihlseng Cottage, where the Humanities Institute is located; and a lunchtime workshop during which Newman will discuss faculty fellowships that are currently available through the National Humanities Center.
“Penn State’s strong reputation in the humanities is manifested in the stellar contributions of its faculty and students,” said John Christman, professor of philosophy and director of the Humanities Institute. “It is an honor to celebrate their accomplishments with our distinguished guests, and in doing so to underscore the social value of work in humanities fields.”
