UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Ten posters by graduate student, postdoctoral and faculty researchers were awarded first prize in various categories during Energy Days 2016, held May 19-20 on the University Park Campus. The winning posters, as well as all posters from Energy Days, can be viewed online. 

During the poster session on May 19, attendees and invited speakers were able to vote online for posters in nine categories. Registrants from more than 50 companies and agencies were able to browse printed posters during both days of the event.

Best in the "Markets/Economics/Society" categories: ​Voting Behavior in Regional Transmission Organizations: focusing on finding 'acceptable proposals'  ​

Best in the "Renewables/Future Supply/Efficiency" categories:  ​Investigation of RF-sputtered Tin Sulfide Thin Films with In Situ and Post-Deposition Heating for Photovoltaic Applications ​

Best in the "Combustion/Catalysis/Gasification" categories:Spatial Analysis of Biofuel Production Potential in Northeastern United States

Best in the "Climate/Ecosystems/Human Health" categories:Air Emissions Exposure Risks and Setback Policy for Hydraulic Fracturing in the Marcellus Shale Region of Pennsylvania ​

Best in the "Technology/Materials/Energy Storage" categories:Flow battery for producing electricity from CO2  ​

Best in the "Minerals/Gas/Fracking" categories (Tie):Risk Based Decision Making for Fracturing Proppant Selectionand​Reservoir Souring: Experiments, Modeling and Understanding

Winning teams receive a certificate of award and a cash prize. The prizes in the Commercialization and Demonstration Project categories were sponsored by the Office of Physical Plant. 

Energy Days 2016, held May 19-20 at Penn State Law on the University Park campus, brought together more than 250 industry leaders, government officials, and Penn State students, faculty, and staff to address how the University can help meet the goals of energy affordability, sustainability, and security. The event featured speakers  from the U.S. Department of Energy, the Environmental Defense Fund, Penn State, and the U.S. House of Representatives, as well as a panel including Dr. Grace Bochenek, Director, National Energy Technology Laboratory; Dr. Kristina Johnson, CEO and co-founder, CubeHydro; Don Moul, Vice President, FirstEnergy; Cynthia Pezze, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Westinghouse Electric Co.; and Andrew Place, Vice Chairman, Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission.
