UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Congressional candidates vying to represent Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives will debate at Penn State’s University Park campus on Saturday, Oct. 15.

WPSU Penn State will host the “Race for the 5th” U.S. House debate between Rep. Glenn Thompson, the Republican incumbent who represents Pennsylvania’s fifth congressional district, and Democrat challenger Kerith Strano Taylor. The 60-minute debate, moderated by WPSU senior producer Patty Satalia, will be held at the WPSU studios at Innovation Park at 7 p.m.

The debate will air live on WPSU-TV and WPSU-FM, and will be streamed live on wpsu.org/live and the WPSU Facebook page. The event is free and open to the public, and pre-registration is required. The public can register for tickets and/or submit questions for the candidates at the WPSU Penn State website.

The state’s fifth congressional district, which is comprised of either all or parts of 16 counties, is the largest congressional district in the state. The constituency represents Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Forest, Jefferson, McKean, Potter, Venango and Warren counties, and parts of Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Huntingdon and Tioga counties.

Thompson and Strano Taylor will face each other in the general election for the second straight cycle after Thompson carried nearly 64 percent of the vote in 2014. The Republican was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2008.

The voter registration deadline is Oct. 11, and the general election is Tuesday, Nov. 8. Visit the WPSU Penn State Vote ’16 page for more election coverage.
