UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The scientific community is pushing to diversify its ranks, recognizing that different perspectives lead to more creative problem solving and answers to some of the most pressing challenges facing humanity. Fostering these inclusive research communities, however, starts in the educational system.

Gary King, professor of biobehavioral health and African American studies at Penn State, will discuss the diversity, equity and inclusion paradigm and the anti-racism reckoning in higher education at 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2. The talk, which is free and open to the public, will be broadcast via Zoom.

King’s talk is part of the fall 2020 EESI EarthTalks series, “Changemaking made EESI: Fostering inclusive research communities in the Earth and environmental sciences.” The series explores new perspectives on initiatives that could increase diversity in environmental fields, with a particular slant toward Penn State’s College of Earth and Mineral Sciences.
